SÁB 18 DE MAYO DE 2024 - 18:33hs.
Deputy João Carlos Bacelar

"Brazil needs to stop hypocrisy and legalize jogo do bicho along with all gaming activities"

A new bill is already ready to go to the lower house, according to what Congressman João Carlos Bacelar (Podemos), a big supporter of the gambling legalization in Congress, assured. 'Only with the release of the jogo do bicho would bring to legality more than 450,000 jobs in Brazil. We need to develop places and a lucrative productive chain to liberate everything or do not release anything,' said the deputy.

The lack of consensus among parliamentarians who are against and in favor of the legalization of gambling in Brazil, banned in the country since 1946, is one of the reasons that keeps the matter under discussion in the Chamber of Deputies. In March, the Commission for Constitution, Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) rejected the bill of Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP) that would legalize the practices.

A new project related with jogo do bicho is already ready to go to the House floor next to the text of Nogueira, defeated in the Senate. At least that is what guaranteed the Congressman Bacelar, great supporter of the legalization of games of chance in Congress. "We would create jobs and generate taxes. Develop places and a lucrative production chain," said the deputy.

The subject may even divide opinions in the legislature, but according to Bacelar, the discussion in Brasilia does not prevent the practice of games and the generation of incomes outside the law. "We need to end this hypocrisy in Brazil. The game is practiced even with the ban and fails to raise R$ 20 billion for the government, "he said.

"Only with the release of the Jogo do biccho would bring more than 450,000 jobs in Brazil to legality," he suggests. According to Bacelar, among the opposing groups on the subject, there are still those who defend the permission only of the return of casinos. The politician says that a sector linked to a right-wing party defends the inclusion of gaming venues in the General Tourism Law, without releasing the jogo do bicho, a very popular mode created in Brazil.

"We must either release everything or does not release anything," says the deputy. According to the president of Podemos na Bahia, the "foreign capital that builds casinos does not create jobs". "No one puts a casino in Tocantins. We are fighting. Or legalize everything or nothing," he concluded.
