Booking.com: Brazilian travelers prioritizes casinos and gaming to choose a destination

Booking.com, world leading metasearch engine for lodging reservations, has analyzed the behavior of Brazilian travelers over the past year to understand consumer patterns and forecast trends for 2018. Elements that Brazilians travelers consider more important than other countries when choosing a destination are: whether the destination is trendy, whether there are live theaters/concerts, casinos and gaming, nightlife and shopping.

Booking.com analyzed the behavior of Brazilian travelers in the last year to understand consumption patterns as well as projecting trends for the year 2018 as the greatest use of technology for planning a trip. This analysis is part of a survey of 56,700 people from 30 countries. To participate, the traveler should be over 18 years of age and have traveled for leisure or work in the last 12 months.

According to the survey, half (51%) of Brazilian travelers made their accommodation reservations only on online platforms in 2017 and 44% booked their accommodations separately instead of choosing travel packages in 2017.

In general, the Brazilian traveler spent 15 to 19 days traveling for leisure last year, with 84% of the trips being short trips, from 1 to 4 nights, to domestic destinations. Regarding business trips, in 2017 Brazilians made more domestic business trips than the average global travelers (46% versus 36%). While on international business trips, Brazilians were just below the global average (21% versus 22%). Following another trend of getting the most out of a destination while traveling to work, nearly 6 out of 10 Brazilian travelers (59%) said they had a chance to enjoy the destination they visited for work.

The work also weighs heavily on Brazilians when planning their travels. In addition to the traditional motivations of "having fun" and "seeing as much as possible", the third biggest motivation for Brazilians is "to rest from work". More than four out of five Brazilian travelers (81%) cited this as an important consideration - a number that makes Brazilians the nation most in need of a break from work among all participating countries.

Another reason to travel that Brazilians quote more often than other countries is to "meet new people": globally, a little less than half of the respondents consider this an important reason (47%), while in Brazil two thirds of travelers (67%). Considering the trend that 2018 is the year of the experiences, it is worth remembering that fate is not everything, but the people with whom we create these memories are also important. In that sense, in 2017, 67% of Brazilian travelers traveled with their partners/spouses and 37% traveled with groups of friends, and the numbers are expected to be maintained this year.

When choosing a destination, the main factors considered by Brazilian travelers are cleanliness, personal safety, beautiful scenery and tasty local cuisine. Other elements that Brazilian travelers consider comparatively more important than other countries when choosing a destination are: if the destination is modern, if there are live theaters / concerts, offers casinos and gambling, nightlife and shopping.
