Chile moves forward in the licensing process for municipal casinos

The Deciding Council of the Chilean Gaming Board (SJC) will meet tomorrow (Friday) to analyse the technical evaluation of the bids for the casino in Pucón in the head offices of the SJC. In addition, it may also analyse the technical bids put forward for the casinos in Viña del Mar, Coquimbo, Iquique and Puerto Varas.

Head of the SJC, Vivien Villagrán Acuña, confirmed that the process of awarding the municipal casinos is in its final stage and that by the end of June the new operators for the municipal casino licences will be known.

“We have deadlines that the law envisages in a very precise way: the first one that expires is with respect to the Pucón casino and that is what we are working on. We have a meeting with the Deciding Council basically to generate the final proposal for the technical evaluation of the bids,” she said.

“Once that happens and it is validated by the council, which has had the chance to make queries, which we have been answering, what appertains to us is to generate a resolution that indicates exactly what the scores are. That resolution is published and the opening of economic bids is called,” Villagrán Acuña added.

The SCJ has been given the task of developing the licensing process in the districts of Arica, Iquique, Coquimbo, Viña del Mar, Pucón, Puerto Varas and Natales. With seven new casino licences now up for tender, the Chilean gaming market will see its biggest transformation since 2005, the year that the government passed bill Law N°19.995 that allowed for the construction of eighteen casinos.
