Chamber’s President insists on casinos and online gaming legalization in Brazil

In a campaign tone, the president of the Chamber of Deputies and pre-candidate for the Presidency of Brazil, Rodrigo Maia, said that the regulation of casinos is important for Rio de Janeiro and for the country, since it could generate jobs and funds for governments. 'We’ll talk (with the deputies), as some politicians ask for bingo or slots the casinos. But we want to introduce (project) the casino and Internet gaming,' he said.

The deputy informed, however, that there are a variety of projects on gaming awaiting voting in the House, a fact that makes the discussion difficult. The idea, he said, is to dialogue so that the project is restricted around casinos and Internet gaming.

"We’ll talk (with the deputies), as some politicians ask for bingo or slots the casinos. But we want to introduce (project) the casinos and Internet gaming, because Brazil is not receiving anything from them (online)," he said during a meeting in the west of Rio de Janeiro with the tourism sector and some commercial associations.

According to Maia, studies show that the implementation of casinos integrated with hotels can result in the creation of 250 to 300 thousand jobs in the country, in addition to resulting in a collection of up to R$ 25 billion (US$ 7bn) for governments. He estimates that up to 32 casinos can be built in Brazil if the project reaches consensus and is approved.
