Colombia expects to have 15 online gaming licenses in the World Cup

Pérez Hidalgo, assured that they plan to increase the licenses to 15 during the World Cup. One of the main panels of the day was "Regulation, responsibility and transparency in betting", with the presence of Karen Sierra Hughes (GLI Director LatAm and the Caribbean), Elizabeth Maya Cano (President Cornazar), Evert Montero (President Fecoljuegos), Juan Andrés Carreño (President of Asojuegos & Asopostal) and Juan B. Pérez Hidalgo (President Coljuegos).

"One of the great challenges we have with the unions is to facilitate access to banking, we are moving forward to change the perception of the gaming sector," said Juan B. Pérez Hidalgo, president of Coljuegos, adding that "Colombia expects to have 15 licenses for online betting operators in the World Cup. If the operators are doing well, Coljuegos is doing well, too"

"From Coljuegos we managed to reduce the time needed to grant an Internet betting license from six to two months in Colombia, and we will continue working for greater efficiency in the other procedures. Online gaming had a great difficulty in Colombia that was the VAT and we managed to exclude it through a law," Pérez explained in his dissertation.

Betting Sports Marketing Conference is a space that seeks to anticipate the current problems surrounding the world of betting in sports, taking into account the growth that this type of activity has had in Latin America and specifically in Colombia.

"We are concerned about the control of illegal websites and we hope that this will be done with forcefulness. We ask the regulator to include games in the online portfolio, so that our operators can become more competitive. The public consultation processes in the online regulations served to create synergies between businessmen and the State," Evert Montero Cárdenas, president of Fecoljuegos, commented.

Then it was the turn of the panel "Operators already working in Colombia", with the experience of Jaume Moragues Farràs (Online Director and Betting in Luckia), Julio César Tamayo (General Manager of Wplay), Rodrigo Afanador (President of Zamba), Diego Navarro (Country Manager Codere Colombia) and Germán Segura (General Manager of the Business Corridor).

"We must strengthen ourselves as a Union, strengthen plans that counteract fraudulent operations, that way we will protect users from risks. And today we see how the operation is growing, we see that the future of sports betting in Colombia is great", said German Segura, General Manager of operator Corredor Empresarial.

Then, Jaume Moragues, online and betting director of Luckia, said that "there is still time for the Colombian market to resemble the world market."

Diego Navarro, from Grupo Codere, said that "in Colombia the identified gaming gives many possibilities for growth and knowledge to the market, which opens up many possibilities and provides learning for all."

"The biggest challenge has been to demonstrate that in the country you can innovate and we have achieved it with a Colombian team,” said Julio César Tamayo, Wplay's General Manager.

Finally, in the panel on integrity in sports betting, Alfredo Lorenzo, Director of integrity and security of LaLiga (Spanish football) revealed that "since 2011 that the law of online gambling was created, the Spanish market has grown 30% annually."
