At CIBELAE seminar in Salvador

Finance and Caixa present current panorama of lotteries in Brazil and its projects

The first day of the “Innovation and Sustainability” Seminar organized by Cibelae and Caixa, held at the Deville Prime Hotel in Salvador, Bahia, was attended by Brazilian speakers who spoke about the moment of the local lottery market. Speakers included Alexandre Manoel, secretary of SEFEL and Valter Nunes, interim vice president of Government Funds and Caixa's Lotteries.

The day of lectures was opened by Cibelae's president, Luis Gama of Uruguay, who emphasized the importance of the event and the debates that would be made during the meeting and requested that all matters be discussed with the participants.

The opening of the seminar was also attended by CAIXA's Vice-President of Lotteries, Valter Nunes. "The debate and exchange of experiences among the world's major lotteries is fundamental to the future and sustainability of this market. CAIXA has been a member of CIBELAE since its inception in 1988 and is continually working to disseminate and implement best practices, remaining competitive and aligned with the main guidelines and innovations in the Lottery market," commented the vice president.

The first Brazilian to speak at the “Lottery Innovation and Sustainability” Seminar was Alexandre Manoel Angelo da Silva, Secretary of Fiscal, Energy and Lottery Follow-up (Sefel) of the Ministry of Finance, who explained the role of the entity as a regulator of the lotteries sector in Brazil, talking about the structural and tactical advances in the regulation of activity in the recent period, describing what they have done and what they intend to do over the next few months, their projects to monitor the activities of the sector and said that as regulators the main objective is to increase the participation of companies in the market and guarantee a perfect competition.

"This event is really very important for the lottery industry, because it allows for the sharing of ideas regarding lottery regulations in Latin America. My team that has been there has reported me great discussions and great conversations throughout the event," commented to GMB the Secretary of the Sefel, Alexandre Manoel Angelo da Silva.

Valter Nunes, Acting Vice-President of Government Funds and Caixa's Lotteries, was the second Brazilian to speak at the Cibelae event in Salvador. It was incumbent on him to explain the work of the public bank as the sole operator of legal lotteries in Brazil, which owned the monopoly of the activities.

He highlighted the significant results of the Lotteries in 2018, with a collection, up to June, of R$ 6.4 billion (US$1.71bn). In the last five years, social transfers totaled R$ 31.5 billion (US$8.45bn), benefiting areas such as social security, education, sports, health, culture and security. The vice president also spoke about the search for innovation and the constant attendance to the needs of the clients of the lotteries. It was also mentioned the launching of Lucky Day, which, since its launch in May of this year until June, has already reached R$ 117.5 million (US$31.5mn) in collection and R$ 41.3 million (US$11mn) in paid prizes.

In addition to the Brazilians, also spoke Alfonso Galiano Martínez, Director of Business Strategy, Marketing and International of Once who spoke on Social Marketing, and Moisés Velasco Navarro, Manager of New Products of the National Lottery of Mexico also talking about Marketing, among other topics, such as the electronic sale.

Also participating in the Seminar are WLA representatives (World Lottery Association), as well as lotteries from countries such as Portugal, Argentina, Spain, Peru and Panama, among others.

Based on the main theme "Innovation and Sustainability in the Lotteries", the Seminar discusses themes relevant to the future of lotteries and will share the best practices adopted in the world market of State Lotteries. Five panels are being presented to stimulate the debate on the challenges for the coming years in the face of innovations: Product Portfolio Panel; Marketing Panel; Security Panel; Panel Sales Network and CIBELAE Panel.
