Brazilian lotteries have record revenues of US$ 1.5 billion in first half

The federal lotteries administered by the Caixa Econômica Federal had a record collection in the first half of this year. From January to June, revenues totaled US$ 1.5 billion. According to the bank's data, the most sold modality was the Mega-Sena, which raised US$ 555 million, followed by Lotofácil, with US$ 477 million, and Quina, with US$ 292 million.

Of the total amount, US$ 755 million was allocated to social transfers, as determined by law. This is because part of the total collected with the games has to be allocated in priority areas.

According to the official information released by Caixa, of the total collected, US$ 243 million was sent to Social Security, US$ 146 million to the Fies (Student Financing Fund), US$ 46 million to Funpen (National Penitentiary Fund) and US$ 24 million to the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB).

In 2017, lotteries totaled US$ 3.4 billion, an increase of 8.14% compared to 2016. In the period, Mega-Sena accounted for 42% of the collection.

UNCLAIMED PRIZES

From January to June, US$ 37 million in prizes were no redeemed by lottery winners in Brazil. In 2017, US$ 80 million were left behind, according to Caixa.
